            <p>If a police officer pulls you over, you might get something extraordinarily different from a ticket. In a quest for safer streets, the Seattle Department of Transportation and Seattle PD were seen last week handing out $5 Starbucks <a href="http://www.citylab.com/cityfixer/2015/06/seattle-to-law-abiding-drivers-heres-a-gift-card/396434/?ref=avalancheghost.one">gift cards</a> to those who <i>abide </i>by traffic laws. Merry Christmas during summer solstice, Seattle. This new venture is part of the city’s <a href="http://www.seattle.gov/visionzero?ref=avalancheghost.one">Vision Zero</a> initiative, which launched in February to reduce traffic fatalities entirely by 2030. Gift cards were funded by a state grant aimed at pedestrian and bike safety. Over the past decade, there’s been a 30 percent drop in traffic deaths, and this means of positive reinforcement may make Seattle roads even safer.</p>
