Starting in Vancouver last week, Washington state senators from both parties have begun touring the state to gauge public opinion on new education spending proposals, which they hope will fix the current school-levy and teacher-pay system. According to Donna Gordon Blankinship of The Associated Press, senators plan to avoid the issue of where that money will come from for these proposals until the next legislative session in January.
The bill that is being discussed on the tour would require a comparable wage analysis for teachers every four years. School levy collections would be transferred into a statewide property tax to support education.
