Boeing and Machinists want to cooperate

Boeing has been in secret (up until now) negotiations with the International Association of Machinists to keep a good deal of 777X work in the greater Seattle area, reports Reuters. The current proposal would place construction of the plane's high-tech composite wings in the Puget Sound area, which could shape where composite work is done for Boeing for quite a while. The plan would also locate the plane's final assembly at the Everett plant, which would seem to make sense since workers there already have experience handling similar projects. Nothing against South Carolina, of course. — A.S.
