The debate between District 3 City Council candidates Kshama Sawant and Pamela Banks, held at Seattle University, featured relatively little overlap in talking points between candidates. According to Seattle PI columnist Joel Connelly, incumbent Sawant touched frequently on such issues as taxing the rich, youth program funding and the importance of protest and activism.

In contrast, Banks advocated for an enhanced reporting system for property crimes, programs that would allow former gang members to serve as mentors for at-risk youth, and for the Department of Transportation to take more neighborhood input when planning transportation projects and roadway modifications. Banks also accused Sawant of grandstanding in her position, and claiming credit for accomplishments she did not play an active or direct role in achieving.
