CNN updated the report on the two gunman killed by police in Garland, Texas who opened fire on security at a controversial Muhammad portrait contest. An unarmed security officer working with the patrol officer was shot in the ankle while none of the approximately 200 people attending the event were hurt. Garland Police Department spokesman Joe Harn told reporters on Monday "He did what he was trained to do, and under the fire that he was put under, he did a very good job. And probably saved lives.”

CNN also reported that one of the attackers who police now identify as Elton Simpson, posted a tweet reading, in part, “May Allah accept us as mujahideen." The tweet also said that he and his fellow attacker, now identified as Nadir Soofi, had pledged loyalty to "Amirul Mu'mineen" (the leader of the faithful). CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank believes that this is probably a reference to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.
