To "celebrate" the anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St Helens, The Washington State History Museum in Tacoma is featuring an exhibit and program, “Living in the Shadows: Volcanoes of Washington" on May 16 (the official anniversary, known to all who were here then, is May 18th). According to the Olympian, the museum is hosting a special event with a number of guest speakers and volcano related activities. Speakers include Atlatl expert Larry Nelson, longtime St. Helens reporter Andre Stepankowsky, and John Ewert, scientist-in-charge at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Cascades Volcano Observatory. Visitors will also be able to purchase souvenirs from the eruption such as containers of volcanic ash, jewelry made from the ash, or a “Year of the Volcano” commemorative poster designed by Native American artist Jeffrey Veregge.
