Fred Hutch trains immune system to "seek and destroy cancer"

Dr. Gary Gilliland, president of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, tells Life Science Innovation Northwest he is excited about new possibilities in immuno-oncology. According to GeekWire, Gilliland proclaimed, "I have never seen anything like this in my life," as he went on to describe what he says could be a cure for most cancers 10 years from now. Juno Therapeutics, a research partner of Fred Hutch, is working on technologies that re-engineer a patient's own T cells to be able to recognize and kill cancer cells. The therapy has had amazing results, without damaging healthy cells, as older oncological treatments tend to do.
