In my small Southern Oregon hometown they used to put a sign up around this time of year: Don’t drink a fifth on the fourth if you want to come forth on the fifth. Good advice, I always thought, and catchy too. Also don’t mix booze and fireworks if you value your fingers. Not as catchy, but true.
