Enough about us in this fall campaign! Let’s talk about you. You’re demanding – in a good way. You want quality news.
You’re not satisfied with stories that are simply a recitation of facts. You want insight; stories that bundle those facts with analysis and perspective and ideas and solutions and present a new way of looking at issues. (And a little humor doesn’t hurt.)
We need your financial support this week to help us meet our fall fundraising goal. We need just 264 more of you, Crosscut readers, to become members or to renew your existing memberships by making a contribution at whatever level you feel is appropriate.
Over the last two weeks, we’ve been talking about how we hope to meet your demand for more and better coverage in areas such as urban life and the Eastside. This week, we need you to become a member so we can expand and deepen our coverage of arts and culture.
My first job in Seattle was covering the arts for Seattle Weekly. It was the perfect entrée into the city and its life. Like many of you, I became an avid fan of the rich arts scene, and I remain amazed and grateful at the way art, in the Pacific Northwest, is so present in our daily lives. The artists I saw, met and wrote about were smart and fun and passionate; and wrestling with artistic, social, and political questions.
Now, as Crosscut’s editor-in-chief, I have a chance to shape arts coverage, to bring stories about artists and their work to you. Your membership contribution will help us:
- Provide tart, discriminating recommendations each week about the coolest stuff out there in music, theater, dance, visual, literary, culinary arts, etc.
- Share the work that artists find inspiring. What’s the best play Susan Zocolla has ever seen? The best horn solo Owuor Arunga’s ever heard? And why?
- Enlist and support artists, who are preternatural problem-solvers, in tackling some of our most vexing civic and social problems. Not just to make things pretty, but to make things work.
