Mynorthwest.com reported on a conversation between Governor Jay Inslee and KIRO Radio's Dori Monson on Wednesday. The discussion concerned educational funding for Washington State.
"The administrations are bloated, Mr. Governor," said Monson. He continued to call the teacher’s union "the most destructive force for great education.” Monson believes that schools should be using their funds to keep good teachers on but eliminate bad teachers at the union level. He criticized Inslee for not keeping with his campaign rhetoric to use lean management.
Inslee made it clear that he is not in favor of tax hikes. He went on to tell Monson that "We owe the kids of our state several billion dollars." “Now that's billion with a 'B.' We're not talking about chump change here."
Educational funding is becoming an urgent topic as more teachers are attempting to gain attention through protest. Bainbridge Island educators left their classrooms on Thursday and nearly 670 Marysville teachers plan to walk off the job Friday. Around 1,200 teachers in the Northshore School District are scheduled to walk out on Wednesday.
