Facebook’s marquee project, Internet.org, aims to connect the two-thirds of the world that lacks regular internet access. Internet.org is now inviting any website or service to join its program.

However the website has been heavily criticized for violating net neutrality principles and Wired reporter Josh Levy has serious doubts about the impact of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s project.  He writes that "when you examine how the program would work, it becomes clear that rather than improve a service that is already busy violating Net Neutrality around the world, the change actually makes things worse.”

His opinion is that Internet.org will turn Facebook into a “quasi-internet service provider” as all traffic would be routed through Facebook’s servers. Facebook will essentially be the “gatekeeper” for all of the information coming from those who use Internet.org.
