Starting this November, Microsoft is allowing women to take up to 5 months of paid maternal leave and new fathers up to 3 months of paid time off, CNN Money reports. The new policy expands paid leave for mothers by eight weeks, which is deemed "maternity disability leave," on top of the 12 weeks they have currently. The company joins Netflix in the trend of extending parental leave for their employees (Netflix now offers "unlimited" leave days for the baby's first year), aiming to compete for top talent in the tech pool. Microsoft will soon lead Facebook, Apple and Google in paid maternity leave weeks — unless the others up their games.
