The Seattle City Councilmember was among the 25 or so kayakers who turned out to bid Shell's controversial oil rig farewell as it left Terminal 5 at the Port of Seattle Monday morning, according to The Seattle Times. O'Brien was also one of several protesters taken into custody for their trouble. He has since been released, and is holding a press conference to explain this morning's activity. Stay tuned for more details. The Shell rig has been in Seattle since mid May. It's heading to Alaska to drill for oil in the pristine Chukchi Sea.
