Early this morning a 16 year-old North Thurston high student brought a revolver onto the school’s Lacey campus and fired one shot into the ceiling of a second-floor hallway and another into the ceiling in the school’s common area. Lacey Police Cmdr. Jim Mack told KOMO that AP teacher Brady Olson managed to tackle the armed student and hold him down —with some help from the principal — until the school's security officer was able to handcuff the teen.
A fellow student reported seeing the shooter walking down the stairs from the gym to the commons, smoking a cigarette and holding a gun. When he started firing, classmates scattered. The shooter was new to North Thurston, having just enrolled last week. No one was hurt and no motive has been reported. Teacher Brady Olson, hailed as a hero, said, "I reacted in a way that any other teacher would react."
