Nothing much at stake but the future of Greece and Europe

Greece’s financial problems have been so consistently bad for so long that it has become almost easy to ignore them. But with a nationwide referendum coming next week, says New York Times “Upshot” commentator Neil Irwin, “These next few days are shaping up to become a transformational moment in the 60-year project of building a unified Europe. We just don’t yet know what sort of transformation it will be.” At stake is Greece’s inclusion in the European Union and a continuation of efforts to rescue the economy.
