Fifty years later – well, 150, really – the rebel state South Carolina has voted to remove the Confederate war flag from the capitol grounds. After a very contentious debate on Wednesday, the South Carolina House approved a measure already passed by the Senate and endorsed by the governor to move the flag to the Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum, near the Capitol, reports The New York Times. The flag has flown there for more than 50 years, but the Civil War ended 150 years ago, in 1865.
