Updated at 4:26 p.mLess than three weeks to go until the primary, and a new King 5 poll shows that Ed Murray and Mike McGinn have leads on their competitors in the Seattle mayor's race. Murray polled at 22 percent of the vote, and McGinn was close behind at 21 percent (a statistically insignificant difference). Peter Steinbrueck pulled in 14 percent, and Bruce Harrell collected 11 percent.  Charlie Staadecker, Mary Martin, Joey Gray, Kate Martin and Doug McQuaid all polled at under 5.The remaining time and the margin of error — plus or minus 4.5 percent — means that the top four are all arguably within shouting distance, as we read it. And King points out that when it conducted polling at a similar point four years ago, incumbent Greg Nickels seemed to have a safe lead — only to wipe out completely and get eliminated. Update: Publicola's Josh Feit has been digging into the poll and suggests that McGinn's support could be overestimated, based on an intensive sampling of younger voters. He will be on KING's newscast this evening to discuss the poll. The top two competitors who survive the primary will go on to the general election in November. A Publicola intern made a surprise visit to several of the mayoral candidate's field offices, shining some interesting light on campaign and volunteer efforts.
