What she's wearing: crisp, white trousers

This outfit is an example of picking the trends that work for me. Babydoll tops? Negative. Leggings? Negative. Wedge heel? Depends. White trousers. Definitely.

I love white trousers for spring/summer (and with a big raspberry to the Labor Day rule, even off-season with a turtleneck and boots). As long as they are clean and not wrinkled, white trousers are an easy way to look crisp and fresh. Another bonus is that if they are true white, it is easy to get the stains out because you can pull out the big guns and not worry about ruining the color.

White trousers especially should fit well, so don't get discouraged if you don't have time to shop around. I love to encourage folks to shop at smaller shops, but sometimes that isn't realistic with a busy schedule. For these trousers, I went to Macy's and spent 15 minutes gathering all the white pants I could find in my size. Then I tasked the salesperson for help as I tried them all on and 20 minutes later walked out with new pants. Some tactics are out of necessity; shopping with my four-year-old son helps my efficiency level tremendously. So, if you don't have your own fidgety four-year-old boy, just borrow the neighbor's and you, too, can avoid the pitfalls of being overwhelmed by a department store.
