We align our resources to address the needs and challenges that Washington and, more broadly, the world face today and will face in the future. That has been our legacy for nearly 125 years; it is our road map for the next 125.
Engagement also is at the heart of our partnership with Crosscut Public Media. They are committed to bringing us together as not only readers but, more importantly, as informed problem solvers ready and willing to address issues that face our community.
We share a common interest in:
- Innovation. Seattle is a city that embraces change, is among those leading the country in discoveries and strives to incorporate change in sustainable ways. Higher education and the research discoveries made by WSU scientists and researchers in areas such as biofuels, organic agriculture, health sciences and clean technology are a root cause of the growth in innovation in our state and in Seattle;
- Leadership. There is no doubt that Crosscut readers have the opportunity to learn about local, state and national leaders and the challenges they face. There is no doubt that the most successful leaders know how to engage, have a broad understanding of the world around them and have been exposed to a wide variety of situations, different kinds of people, and are ground-tested in understanding a wide range of values. Civic health depends on leaders with these kinds of attributes, and WSU is committed to incorporating these learning opportunities throughout our undergraduate education programs;
- Access. Access to information — either through higher education or in the media — is critical to long-term economic, social and overall well-being and ongoing learning. We share a priority to serve the underserved and encourage all citizens to embrace the opportunity to be educated, informed and engaged.
As a land-grant university, we value and support any entity that wants to inform, listen to and talk with those most affected by issues, who often have the most creative solutions to those issues. Our partnership with Crosscut is a natural fit that will help each of our organizations be more effective.
